Gwangju, which was designated as the UNESCO Media Arts Creative City in December 2014, seeks to promote local culture and art and economic development of the city through Media Arts.
In the era of AI and The Fourth Industrial Revolution, based on the vision and philosophy of sustainable urban development in UNESCO's Creative City, the cultural and creative asset of Gwangju (the fusion of art and technology) is being utilized as an important pillar of future art.
In response, Gwangju is pushing for the following Media Arts-related projects in a step-by-step strategy in order to establish the status of 'UNESCO Media Arts Creativity City Gwangju' and strengthen the city's brand.
⓵ Construction of domestic and international network system
⓶ A strategic project for fostering development of Creative City(Based on three steps)
⓷ The development and operation of Media Arts contents
⓸ An activation of participatory program of Media Arts for the citizen
Above all, Gwangju has recently declared its vision as an artificial intelligence city and is preparing for the coming future that will change with advances in science and technology such as artificial intelligence, big data, mobile technology, big data finance, IOT, cultural technology and urban regeneration. It has established AI convergence center and related universities, and established Art & Media Technology Center (AMT Center) and Immersive Media Content Center(Cube), which are convergence centers for arts and technology, to establish a foundation for applying and implementing them throughout Gwangju's cultural industry.
